It has been announced that Mark Shaw will join Syngenta as portfolio manager for the company’s range of Hyvido hybrid winter barley varieties.
A part of this role will include spearheading the introduction of a new phase of varieties – Hyvideo Neo, which includes barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) resistance, as seen in the latest launch SY Kestral.
“Syngenta has a proven track record of more than 20 years in successful hybrid barley breeding,” he said. “Over this time, multiple improvements have been introduced into Hyvido, including better disease resistance and clear steps forward in grain specific weight.
“Now, farmers face a new set of challenges in sustainability and other areas. As well as the BYDV challenge, we are also focused on other traits such as water use efficiency. I am delighted to be joining the Hyvido journey at this exciting time.”
Mark brings extensive experience to the role, working as a marketing manager for hybrid oilseed rape varieties, as well as in the crop protection market.
