Kuhn Farm Machinery has updated its range of VB variable chamber round balers by making two popular models, the VB 3160 and VB 3190, available as non-ISOBUS compatible versions.
Previously only available as ISOBUS compliant machines, the VB 3160 (1.20 x 0.80 x 1.60m bales) and VB 3190 (1.20 x 0.80 x 1.85m bales) are now also available in non-ISOBUS variants: these versions are controlled using a VT 30 control box which enables all the functions offered by the ISOBUS-ready versions, albeit without the need to purchase or install an ISOBUS-ready terminal and wiring loom.
“Making the VB 3160 and VB 3190 balers available as non-ISOBUS variants makes these machines more accessible to a broader range of customers who either don’t have an ISOBUS-ready tractor, or don’t want to invest in a full ISOBUS wiring loom and terminal,” explains Kuhn product specialist, Katie Calcutt. “The new versions offer all the same functions and benefits as their ISOBUS compatible counterparts, but at a retail price which is almost £1,300 lower.”
In common with the wider VB range, the VB 3160 and VB 3190 both offer net or twine binding options and are suitable for baling a range of wet and dry crops: from hay and straw (5-20% moisture), to haylage (18-35% moisture) and silage (35-80% moisture).
Both models are equipped with progressive density baling chambers which use two chamber rollers, a starter roller and five endless baling belts to produce evenly shaped bales. Belt pressure increases as the bale grows, and can be adjusted from the tractor cab to compensate for variations in crop type quality and to maintain a constant density as the bale is formed.
The VB 3160 and VB 3190 are available with Kuhn’s OPTIFEED or OPTICUT 14 intake rotors: the OPTIFEED system uses a 2.30m pick-up and patented integral rotor and side augers to achieve a high input capacity from a reduced power requirement. The rotor tines are manufactured from Hardox® wear-resistant steel for improved longevity.
The OPTICUT 14 system also uses a 2.30m pick-up and features a patented integral cutting rotor with 14 knives to provide a cutting length of 74mm. The cutting rotor is manufactured from Hardox® wear-resistant steel for improved longevity. On both versions Kuhn’s DROPFLOOR and hydraulic rotor disengagement system enables blockages to be cleared quickly and effortlessly.
Each variant is powered by a simple and sturdy drive system which uses just three main chains, each of which are designed to have a low maintenance requirement and can be fitted with automatic chain lubrication as an option.
