A new series of Lantra-accredited online courses have been developed by Ei Operator to help manufacturers, dealers, owners and operators comply with the recently introduced British Standard Code of Practice for the use of autonomous mobile machinery (AMM).
Key factors for compliance include addressing impacts on existing health and safety legislation, understanding the risks of autonomous machines and having the skills to mitigate these.
Four courses have been introduced. The first acts as an introduction to the use of autonomous machinery, with an overview of key issues and the main difficulties that may be encountered.
Safe integration of autonomous machinery will help users assess the impact of the Code of Practice on their business, with an overview of four main areas:
- Obligations placed on senior managers and staff during the commissioning process
- Requirements to ensure accurate and effective training
- Repair and maintenance routines
- Emergency procedures.
There is also a course focused on safety and risk management, concerning British Standard BS 8646:2023 Code of Practice, as well as general best practice advice for those trialling or working with AMM.
Finally, there is a course on operational planning and site design for autonomous machinery, with explanations of the impact of new regulations and what pre-planning will be required when adopting autonomous machines.
The courses have been developed in association with Farm Safe Consulting. To find out more go to www.eioperator.com
