The auction house, Cheffins, is set to host its second collective vintage sale of 2022, on Saturday, July 23, at its sale ground in Sutton, near Ely. With such a large vehicle consignment for sale on the Saturday, agricultural and automotive literature, prints and pictures will go separately under the hammer on Friday, July 22.
Amid the range of more than 150 vintage and classic tractors, a well-presented 1979 County 1474 will be on offer. It has a pre-sale estimate of more than £150,000.
A rare 1954 Ferguson TEF-20 Bombardier Half-Track, with an original Ferguson winch, will also be available – with a pre-sale estimate of £12,000 to £15,000. Plus, a 1973 David Brown 996 tractor, with only 322 hours on the clock, is expected to sell for between £15,000 and £18,000.
Further to that, highlights will include a County Super-6; a 1977 County 1174; a 1920 Titan 10-20 and a rare Mailam Dexta Crawler.
Among the commercial vehicle lots, a well-restored 1965 Scammell Highway Ballast Box tractor lorry, previously in the ownership of Hall’s Funfair, will be auctioned with a sale estimate of £15,000 to £16,000. While a fully refurbished 1972 Ford D-500 Tipper lorry will also go under the hammer. This historic model is expected to go for between £10,000 and £11,000.
A 1927 ES2 Norton amateur TT race bicycle, consigned from a private collection in Hertfordshire, is leading the sale’s 40-lot motorcycle section. It has a price estimate of between £30,000 and £40,000 and is a particularly special model as it was the first ever ES2 to have been mentioned in the Norton records.
Selling on behalf of the family of the late fairground memorabilia collector Roger Austin is a consignment of more than 100 historic gallopers, figures, clowns, rounding boards, signs and other vintage fairground items. The entire collection is expected to sell for upwards of £20,000 in total.
The sale’s automobilia section will include a rare example of a 1950s Shellmex ‘fat bodied’ pecten petrol pump globe, made by Webb’s Crystal Glass Co., that is expected to go for in excess of £1,000.
Oliver Godfrey, head of Cheffins’ machinery auction department, said: “The July sale sees a varied and dense catalogue with some exciting tractors on offer, as well as rare and historic pieces throughout the commercials, motorbikes and automobilia sections. As always, the collective sales offer up items which are rare to the market, and we look forward to seeing buyers old and new at the sale.”
Oliver Godfrey continues: “As with the April auction, we have decided to return all sections of the sale back to offering both live onsite and online bidding, due to continued demand from the collecting market to be able to bid in person.”
