In its debut at Lamma, Origin Fertilisers focused on offering advice and support to farmers and growers to help them make the best use of their fertilisers.
Central to this was the portfolio of NUE-TRITION products aimed at increasing nitrogen use efficiency. This includes Digest-It, a liquid microbial inoculant that is said to increase nitrogen recovery after the application of slurries and digestates.
Adding an inoculant can help reduce ammonia emissions that are associated with slurry applications, as well as convert the nitrogen within the slurry into more readily available forms.
Other benefits include reducing the time to agitate and pump slurry as the microbes and dormant aerobic bacteria in the slurry break down organic matter. It can also reduce surface crusting.
At the plant level, it can convert solid manure into plant-available liquid nutrients that can be readily taken up.
Alongside Digest-It, the company shared prescription fertiliser trial results that include 20% liveweight gains while applying 15% less nitrogen; the benefits of adding sodium to nitrogen to increase grass sugar content and how adding manganese to a spring barley fertiliser increased nitrogen use efficiency by 8.2%.
