A significant step in the road to decarbonise wheat production has reportedly been reached, thanks to the use of ISCC PLUS low-carbon nitrogen fertiliser.
The initiative has been championed by industry stakeholders, including nitrogen producer, OCI Global, German agricultural trading company, Agravis, and Dossche Mills, one of the largest mills in Europe.
Using low-carbon fertiliser was the first step in the process of certifying the value chain of wheat products, providing essential data throughout the production lifecycle.
A recognised methodology for determining and certifying the Product Carbon Footprint has now been agreed upon, and the companies involved are now preparing for next year’s harvest, expanding the project and inviting more farmers to take part.
