With just a month to go until Cereals, we attended the Crop Plot preview day and, alongside our sister publication Agronomist & Arable Farmer, interviewed the companies exhibiting their new varieties.
Tom Yewbrey, seed sales manager at Senova, explained that winter beans will be a key feature in the company’s Cereals crop plot, showcasing Vespa and Vincent, the two top yielders on the PGRO Descriptive List.
He added that winter beans make an excellent break crop option, especially with nitrogen prices being so high. “There are good markets for beans. All our varieties are suitable for export and there is increased demand for home-grown protein.”
Sharing a stand with Just Oats, visitors will also be able to see the leading winter variety Mascani, and the high-yielding candidate Cromwell. Other cereals include the latest soft Group 4 wheat, Swallow, which has been performing well in trials across northern England and Scotland and has excellent distilling potential.
The Cereals Event will be held near Duxford, Cambridgeshire on 8-9 June 2022. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the relaunched website at www.cerealsevent.co.uk.
