With just a month to go until Cereals, we attended the Crop Plot preview day and, alongside our sister publication Agronomist & Arable Farmer, interviewed the companies exhibiting their new varieties.
There’s plenty to see on the Syngenta stand this year, with winter wheat, spring and winter malting barley and wildflower mixes all on display. Wheat varieties will include Graham, Gleam, SY Insitor and the new variety, SY Coach.
“There will also be a full range of hybrid barley varieties including SY Kingsbarn, SY Thunderbolt and SY Canyon. These will be included in the ‘Rooting Zone’ demonstration where the hybrid rooting vigour will be on display,” said technical manager Kathryn Hamlen.
Winter malting barley will include Craft and Electrum, now widely available, as well as SY Vessel, the first non-glycosidic nitrile (GN) winter malting variety on show.
According to the company, Laureate remains a favourite spring malting variety and Syngenta will be promoting a beer brewed from the variety, the name of which will be chosen in the company’s ‘Name the Beer’ competition.
The Cereals Event will be held near Duxford, Cambridgeshire on 8-9 June 2022. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the relaunched website at www.cerealsevent.co.uk.
