After reporting that tractor registrations were 15% lower from January to September than the previous year, the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) has released a breakdown of the figures by power and region.
A decline in registrations can be seen across nearly all of the power brackets. However, the AEA reports a 15% increase in tractors above 240hp. Between January and September, these high horsepower machines made up 16% of the total, up from 12% in 2023.
Between 50hp and 240hp, there was a 19% reduction in registrations.
Looking at registrations by region, the AEA is reporting declines in every area of the UK. The most significant declines were in the South of England, with decreases becoming less pronounced as you move further North.
The AEA suggests that this could be due to stronger livestock prices this year, especially when compared to arable crops, which have also struggled due to the weather conditions.
In the third quarter of the year, the differences between North and South were reportedly less apparent, although there was a small increase in the North West of England, and less pronounced declines in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
