The Farmers’ Union of Wales is joining in with national lamb week this autumn (September 1-7) in a bid to raise the profile of Welsh lamb and boost retail sales.
The FUW’s ‘It’s more than lamb’ campaign will see union officials join Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) on their tour across Wales in order to spread the word of this fantastic product amongst consumers.
The roadshow, which is organised by HCC, will visit Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda stores as far afield as Wrexham, Exeter and Berkshire between the end of August and late November. The trailer will also be located in Portmeirion during Festival No. 6 in early September.
“The FUW is looking forward to joining HCC at their Wales based locations and is further spreading the word with a poster campaign across Wales as well as a social media campaign during national lamb week in September,” said FUW president Glyn Roberts.
The FUW will also host a meeting with meat processors Randall Parker Foods Ltd, Dunbia and St Merryn, during September at Welshpool mart and FUW standing committee chairmen will be meeting with HCC on Tuesday September 8 to discuss how they are going to promote Welsh lamb in the future in an effort to stabilise sales in a volatile market place.
In addition the union has gathered support from butchers across Wales, who will also be joining in the plight to promote Welsh lamb and are handing out information leaflets to customers during lamb week.
