Allflex Livestock Intelligence has appointed Alan Powell as business development manager in the South West of England, covering Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
Mr Powell joins the company’s monitoring team and will oversee sales and marketing of the SenseHub and Heatime Pro+ monitoring systems.
He gained a PhD in ruminal microbiology from Cardiff University in 1997 and has since worked on the ADAS Experimental Husbandry Farm, as well as in sales and marketing with Pfizer Animal Health.
Before being offered the role with Allflex, Mr Powell started his own business and founded and produced the TV show Farming Sunday, before diversifying into agri-digital applications.
Commenting on Alan’s appointment, Paul Mitcham, Allflex’s monitoring manager for the UK, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Alan to the Allflex Livestock Intelligence team and look forward to working with him to improve our scope and reach in the Southwest.
“With the sustainability and viability of livestock farms coming under continued pressure from rising input prices and an ever-more demanding legislative burden, SenseHub has a useful role to play in improving the fertility and health indices of all dairy and beef herds.
“Alan will provide important commercial and technical support to the region’s farmers and will play an integral part in the development of Allflex’s strategy to expand the sales of its herd monitoring systems in the Southwest.”
