JCB has introduced a mid-range model to its Loadall telehandler range, with a 7.01m reach and a maximum capacity of 3,800kg, placing it between the existing 532-70 and 542-70 machines.
It’s available with four transmissions, three power outputs and three specification levels. The AGRI variant comes with the Torque Lock 4 gearbox, with torque converter lock-up in fourth gear, coupled with a 109hp JCB DieselMAX 448 engine. The AGRI Super has 130hp under the bonnet, with a standard four-speed Powershift transmission and the option to upgrade this to the Autoshift.
Autoshift is also available on the AGRI Xtra, which offers 150hp. The Autoshift gearbox has automatic and manual shifting, along with torque converter lock-up in the top two gears.
Super and Xtra models can also be equipped with the DualTech VT transmission, combining a hydrostatic and powershift drivetrain. This proven gearbox offers precision speed control during loading tasks, while switching to an automatic powershift for road travel beyond 19kph.
Regardless of the variant chosen, the telehandler comes with automatic wheel alignment when switching between the three steering modes, as well as an auto-reversing cooling fan. Hydraulic power is provided by a 140-litre per minute load-sensing pump, with regeneration for boom retraction and lowering, and automatic Smooth Ride boom suspension is standard on all but the AGRI version, where it is available as an option.
The 538-70 is completed with a Command Plus cab, with low noise levels, all-round and upwards visibility, a ‘memory’ steering column and generous storage provisions.
