From November 2021, Pöttinger will offer an expanded range of Aerosem FDD pneumatic seed drills. The existing 4m and 5m models will be joined by a new 6m folding variant with a front hopper.
The new model is said to offer increased reliability to ensure continuous operation in difficult conditions; a short and compact design of the power harrow and coulter rail to keep the centre of gravity close to the rear axle, and a redesigned front hopper for optimum filling and a 2,400-litre maximum capacity.
The front hopper is available in 1,700 litres or 2,400 litres capacities and is now fitted with a full-length airtight cover. Special emphasis was reported placed on handling and accessibility while filling and calibrating. A service platform with two steps has been fitted to provide better visibility into the hopper during filling and there is the choice of a single metering unit or a dual metering system.
Single shoot metering makes it possible to place not only seed but also fertiliser, or a companion crop, micro-granules or another type of seed.
The coulter rail on the Aerosem FDD is mounted on the power harrow using a docking system and is said to take just a few minutes to fit or remove. This means that in just a few steps the coulter rail and distribution head can be removed, leaving just the power harrow.
A short headstock puts the centre of gravity close to the tractor, with the distribution head mounted onto the coulter rail and featuring a patented system to keep it upright at all times. Proven DualDisc double disc coulters are offset at 30cm and are said to ensure accurate seed placement. Coulter pressure can be adjusted mechanically, with hydraulic adjustment available as an option, and seed placement depth is set from the side of the machine.
Seed distribution is controlled using the distributor head, which can be provided with individually controllable outlets (IDS) as an option. Using the fully-equipped version, the driver can adjust the tramline widths and tyre widths directly from the terminal.
