Dairy farmers are being invited to a free webinar this month focused on the vital transition period which takes place before and after calving. This is defined as the 60 days before and 30 days after calving when cows undergo huge physiological changes.
Optimising their condition during this period will deliver a positive impact on the health and productivity of both cow and calf.
Agrimin, the global manufacturer of trace elements, minerals and specialist nutritional products, is hosting the one-hour online event.
Dr Annie Williams, Agrimin’s export manager and technical support, will outline the significant changes affecting cattle during the transition, helping farmers to plan the period effectively.
Dr Williams said: “With most of the UK and Ireland’s dairy herd now indoors, the focus is on optimising cattle condition ahead of next year’s calving.
“The transition period will begin in December for some and January or February for others, but regardless of timing, the message around optimising your cows during the final trimester is the same.
“We hope this short webinar will provide a number of useful takeaway messages about the vital 90 days before and after calving.”
Lucy Giles, farm animal veterinary surgeon from Castle Vets in Cornwall will share her experience of how a positive approach to the transition period can benefit productivity, cow condition and future fertility.
Attendees will get the chance to ask their own questions to the panel. The webinar takes place on the 14th of December at 7pm. Interested farmers can register here.
