The Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) has now released tractor registrations for the first half of the year, totalling 6,777 machines – an increase of 5.6% over the same period in 2022.
According to the organisation, much of the growth was for machines over 160hp. This was most notable in the 161-200hp bracket, which saw the highest registrations overall with 1,853 machines registered compared to 1,317 in 2022 – a 40.7% increase.
Registrations of high-power tractors were up more than a quarter, compared to the year before, while in contrast, 11% fewer machines were registered below this threshold. The AEA notes that continued supply chain disruptions may be driving this, rather than customer demand.
At a regional level, the growth in registrations was primarily focused in the South and East of England. The largest increase was the Home Counties (+20%), however this only accounts for a small share of the national total – increasing from 315 units in 2022 to 378 machines.
The biggest actual rise was seen in the South West (+12.4%), rising from 927 tractors up to 1,042. Registrations saw a smaller rise in Scotland (+4.2%) and were lower than a year before in Northern Ireland, Wales and the North West of England.
