Climate Spheres UK is a new UK start-up, set up to help UK farmers continue to thrive despite the changing climate. According to the company, it will use science-based solutions to enable growers to change in robust and cost-effective ways.
It will focus on three specific products and services to help the industry adapt to climate change:
- It has developed proprietary tools to offer in-depth analysis of the impact of climate change on agriculture, helping growers to understand the specific challenges on their individual farms. Based on this, the company will provide advice on financials, sustainability, potential risks and planning focuses.
- The company has identified industrial hemp as a high-potential crop and will help growers choose from more than 50 varieties, as well as advise on growing licences and establishment and crop care. As each hemp plant can produce upwards of 3,000 seeds, it is seen as a highly profitable opportunity and the company will look for buyers of the crop, as well as buyers for the hemp stalk for the production of biochar.
- It will help farmers to improve slurry management with anaerobic digestors, with assistance in the development of business plans for maximising the returns, as well as selecting the right plant for the specific farm.
“Farmers need to get ahead of the impacts of Climate Change. They need to understand how their specific farm will be affected and what they can do to ensure, not just survival, but profitability, in the future. This is essential, not just for the farmers themselves, but for all of us who rely on farming, in its myriad forms, in the UK. Climate Spheres UK has been created to ensure farmers are able to thrive in a climate-changed future,” said CSUK co-founder Kevin Holtzclaw.
The company recently won the UK 2022 Journey to Net Zero award, hosted by the School of Sustainable Food and Farming and has done pilot projects in England and Wales. It is now launching to the wider farming communities. For more information go to www.climate-spheresuk.com
