Building on the success of its M-Series machines, Caterpillar has introduced the Next Generation Cat 906, 907 and 908 wheeled loaders, with a new operator’s station and the latest C2.8 engine.
The new sealed and pressurised cabin is said to improve the operator experience while retaining raised floor pedals and two doors to make cleaning easier. Visibility is ensured with larger standard side mirrors, with the option of parabolic lens, electric and heated mirrors, as well as front and rear cameras.
Seat mounted controls improve ergonomics, with a multi-function joystick to control direction and speed, as well as proportional auxiliary flow, differential lock and constant hydraulic flow. Like the larger models, operators can also choose from a range of seats, including a new heated and ventilated seat.
Reportedly a first for the class size, new in-cab programmable kickouts with high-definition rotary sensors mounted on the loader arms to protect operators from unwanted shock and vibration. This is also supposed to save up to 20% of bucket cutting edge life.
At the heart of the cab design is the Next Generation control monitor, which offers a range of real-time operating information. Operators can configure the hydrostatic transmission response, auto engine idle shutdown and a utility powertrain mode to provide operators with a more intuitive means of controlling ground and engine speed.
Upgraded powertrain
The Cat C2.8 engine delivers the same 75hp as the previous generation, but produces 13% more torque. It meets Stage V emissions regulations, with power put to the ground through a shift-on-the-go transmission for 40kph roading speeds.
Fuel tank capacities have been increased for longer work cycles. The 906 features a 30% larger tank, while the 907 and 908 have been increased by 12%.
There’s also a new reversing-fan option, which can be controlled from the cab. Automatic mode uses the factory setting to reverse the fan direction for ten seconds every ten minutes, which can be changed easily by the driver.
The hydraulic functions of the machines have also been enhanced, with a pressure compensated valve fitted as standard to enable the simultaneous control of implements and hydromechanical attachments.
Improved visibility is made possible thanks to modifications to the optional skid steer coupler, as well as realignment of the compact wheeled loader fork carriage. Bucket capacities have also been increased across the range.
New for the class size, the 908 can be fitted with a high-lift configuration. The units are completed by a full LED package (including underhood units) to improve visibility and maintenance.
