Samantha Charlton has joined AHDB Beef & Lamb as knowledge exchange manager, covering businesses based in the North East of England.
Samantha brings with her a wealth of experience in agriculture, having previously worked at the NFU Mutual and as a County Advisor for NFU Northumberland & North Durham. As part of her former role, she was also secretary for the NFU North East Livestock Board, where she worked with members on key livestock policy issues, as well as supporting on issues surrounding animal health.
The appointment follows Steve Dunkley’s secondment to the Pork Knowledge Exchange team in September.
Samantha, who herself lives on a livestock farm, said: “My career has always been linked to agriculture and this role gives me the opportunity to work closely with producers.
“Within my new role I would like to demonstrate to levy payers how AHDB can add value to their businesses and improve efficiency on farm. With the industry facing a long list of challenges, it’s becoming increasingly important to ensure farm businesses are ‘fit for the future’.
“I will be working with the AHDB Beef and Lamb team to develop our Strategic Farms as part of AHDB’s Farm Excellence activity, as well as looking to develop new initiatives within our supply chain work. I am also looking forward to working with farmers and the wider industry to explore how we can better understand costs of production.”
