DairyCo has launched a new training film on Body Condition Scoring (BCS) which complements its existing resources available to dairy producers.
This short film is available on the DairyCo YouTube channel, covering the how, when and where of scoring, along with step-by-step instructions to achieve accurate and consistent BCS for the herd.
Designed in consultation with industry and produced under the umbrella of the DairyCo Research Partnership, led by Nottingham University, this resource sits alongside the score card and recording sheets already available. Used together, this management tool provides an aid to producers and their advisors, for the benefit of the herd. The paper based materials can be ordered or downloaded from the DairyCo website.
Tom Goatman, DairyCo extension officer, says, “This new film on DairyCo Body Condition Scoring has been developed to help build confidence in accurately assessing BCS, arming farmers with invaluable information, to allow them to make informed management decisions. This information is vital in any type of system to assess the performance of the nutritional strategies used and the effects this has on herd productivity in key areas, such as fertility, health and production.”
