The Processors and Growers Research Organisation (PGRO) has launched a free app for Apple and Android devices, enabling growers to diagnose pest and disease issues, as well as evaluate growth stages, calculate seed rates or file reports directly to the PGRO lab.
Advice and information within the app covers all the main pulse crops grown in the UK, as well as vining peas, lupins and chickpeas.
According to the PGRO, it has been designed as a first port of call for growers and agronomists, providing them with new features such as reporting, which sends information directly to PGRO experts.
“We’ve designed the app to be simple to use but with a huge amount of practical information that delivers real value to growers and agronomists,” says Roger Vickers, PGRO’s CEO.
“Detail can be accessed extremely quickly in the field so as soon as something is spotted it can be self-diagnosed using, for example, the images and symptoms we have published in the app. The feature allowing users to create a report will act as a quick observation from field to lab in seconds.
“The PGRO has been established for 80 years and has an unrivalled amount of information from pulse crop research. With this app, we are sharing our knowledge of how to grow the best crops possible in a format that we know growers will value.”
