Holme Lacy College, part of the Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College, has reinstated its Farm Worker Apprenticeship scheme and is asking growers to take part.
Taking between 12 and 18 months to complete, the apprenticeship is designed to build core knowledge, skills and behaviours on farm, with a focus on either livestock or crops.
According to the college, hiring an apprentice enables farm businesses to grow their own talent in an economical way, with government funding available.
It also fills a gap in the workforce and can help motivate the team by injecting motivated workers who have made an active choice to be part of the industry.
Apprentices will spend one day of the week at college, learning practical skills and theory. Once the employer or college believes that they are competent, they will undergo their End Point Assessment.
