Kverneland has been awarded a silver award by the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) in its 2024 Technical Innovation Award scheme.
The award is for the Pudama precision fertiliser placement system, jointly developed by Kverneland and the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany.
Judges praised the system for its ability to meter a precise amount of fertiliser for each seed at the right time, without sacrificing forward speed.
Available on Optima maize planters, the system is triggered by a pulse from the sowing units. As the seed reaches a point on the sowing heart, the fertiliser placement is triggered.
Trials have shown that the Pudama uses around 25% less fertiliser than traditional systems while retaining 100% of the yield.
